Restoration on the Lafnitz River is featured in international nature documentary

On April 25, one of our IRIS pilot rivers became a film set: for a multi-part series on ecological restoration projects in Europe, a film crew from the Spanish nature documentary series El Escarabajo Verde visited our project on the Lafnitz near Rudersdorf.

Nature documentary
meets river restoration

Despite heavy rain, we were able to give an overview of the IRIS pilot project on the Lafnitz River and the overall concept behind the project. Together with the film crew, we visited the construction site, explained the restoration measures, and talked about the ecological significance of such projects for the state of Burgenland, Austria, and Europe.

Emil Flasch and DI Helena Mühlmann from the IRIS team, DI David Venus, mayor of Rudersdorf, and WHR DI Josef Wagner, group director of departments 4 (agriculture, nature and climate protection) and 5 (building authority) of the province of Burgenland, appeared on camera.

European perspective
on nature restoration

The Lafnitz is a model example of the IRIS project’s integrative approach, and we are delighted that the river restoration measures on the Lafnitz are now also gaining international recognition. Restoration projects such as the one on the Lafnitz near Rudersdorf show how vibrant and healthy river landscapes can once again become a reality in Europe – without compromising flood protection.
